IRQ
Definition
Interrupt Request. Hardware signal to the CPU requesting attention.
Detailed explanation
An interrupt request is the signal a hardware device uses to ask the processor for attention. Windows and modern PCIe hardware allocate and share interrupts automatically, so users rarely assign them by hand. You can view resources in Device Manager, but two devices displaying the same number does not automatically mean there is a conflict; message-signaled interrupts are designed for sharing. Genuine allocation problems are more common with older expansion hardware or unusual firmware settings and usually appear with a Device Manager status code. Before moving cards or disabling onboard components, update the motherboard firmware and chipset support, record the current layout, and change only one thing at a time so you can reverse it.
