You don't need a maintenance schedule - just a simple habit: look at drivers when something misbehaves or after a major operating-system update, and leave everything alone while it works.

When trouble does appear, start with the components doing the heavy lifting. Graphics, chipset and storage drivers shape day-to-day speed and stability, so check their release notes for a documented fix before anything else. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth come next - they sit behind most dropped connections and pairing headaches. Printers, webcams and controllers only need attention when you add them or when they stop behaving.

Before changing anything, check what you already have: a driver's provider, date and version are two clicks away in Device Manager, and that alone tells you whether an update is even worth it. And stay sceptical of tools that promise to do all of this for a fee - your system's built-in update tool plus the maker's official support page covers nearly every real-world case for free.
