VEN ID
Definition
Vendor ID. A 4-digit code identifying the hardware manufacturer.
Detailed explanation
A vendor ID is a four-digit hexadecimal code assigned to identify the manufacturer of a PCI or PCIe device. You can see it in Device Manager by opening a device's Properties, choosing the Details tab, and selecting Hardware Ids. In a string such as PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1234, the characters after VEN_ identify the vendor. This is especially useful when Windows labels a component as Unknown device and the product name is unavailable. The code narrows the search to the correct manufacturer, but it does not identify the exact model by itself; pair it with the device and subsystem values before choosing any package, and prefer the PC maker's support page for built-in laptop hardware.
