Rollback

Definition

Reverting to a previously installed driver version.

Detailed explanation

A rollback restores the previously retained version of a device package after a newer release causes a regression. In Device Manager, open the device's Properties, select the Driver tab, and choose Roll Back Driver. The button is unavailable when Windows did not keep an earlier package, such as after a clean installation. This is worth trying before a full removal when flicker, audio dropouts, connection failures, or missing features began immediately after an update. Record the working version once the problem clears. Windows Update may offer the newer release again, so pause that update briefly while confirming stability rather than repeatedly moving between versions without knowing which one works.
