Non-Volatile Memory Express is the storage protocol used by modern PCIe solid-state drives. It allows many command queues and low-latency access, which is why these drives are much faster than SATA models under parallel workloads. Windows 10 and 11 include an inbox NVMe controller, while some storage vendors provide an optional model-specific package. You can identify the drive and controller in Device Manager and check firmware through the maker's utility. If Windows Setup cannot see an NVMe drive, first verify that firmware detects it and that the storage controller is not hidden behind an unsupported RAID mode. Load a controller package only when the system maker requires it; copying an ordinary disk driver at random will not fix a firmware-level detection problem.
