WLAN

Definition

Wireless Local Area Network. Wi-Fi connection.

Detailed explanation

A wireless local area network is the Wi-Fi connection between a PC and a nearby access point or router. In Windows, the radio appears under Network adapters, while the operating system's WLAN service manages saved networks and connections. The adapter package determines supported bands, security modes, roaming behavior, and power management. When connections drop only after sleep or the radio disappears, compare the current version with the laptop or adapter maker's release notes and test with power saving disabled. Also separate software from signal problems by trying another network. Reinstalling the radio package cannot overcome weak coverage, congestion, or an access point using a channel the hardware does not support.
